Video-art about identity, gender, and masculinities at the conference

The conference organizers proudly presents the Danish-Portuguese multi artist L-O-B-O’s video-installation uncut which will be shown during the whole conference in Small Auditorium in Building 01 at Roskilde University.

unCUT (2008) is a dance-theatre and video-installation on sexuality, gender and masculinity. It revolves around three triplates with different sexual identities: a) the terms masculinity and manhood are discussed by Joshua, a Danish homosexual man; b) the meaning of normality, beauty, and love are reflected in Eva’s life, a sophisticated Danish transsexual woman; c) new male values and norms are mirrored in David’s actions, a busy modern Danish heterosexual man. Apart from these aspects the soundtrack gives voice to real people that L-O-B-O has met and interviewed in Scandinavia, including expert-academics on the fields of gender and identity.

unCUT’s goal as a project is to approach gender issues from the inside and present them to a broad audience as a concrete example of how one can combine artistic creation with theoretical/academic knowledge and thus problematise masculinity and gender in art. In it’s 5 year preparation L-O-B-O has been contacting and interviewing both real people in the specific milieus as well as academic experts on these specific fields of study.

A shortened version of unCUT of approx. 45 minutes will be shown at the conference  (the original version is 96 minutes). It will be played in a loop throughout the conference.

unCUT can be experienced in Small Auditorium 01 Wednedsday 28/1 between 14.00-23.00, thursday 29/1 between 9.00-24.00 and friday 30/1 between 9.00-16.30.
